How to get to Heaven

According to the Bible, you can be 100% sure that you will go to Heaven one day.

Here is what God's Word says, step by step. All verses are from the King James Bible.

1. 01

   All of us have sinned.

   “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

   Romans 3:23

   Even though we may never have met, you know that I have sinned because of the word ALL. It does not matter how old or young, rich or poor — all have sinned.

   Most people know that doing what God says not to do is sin. But the Bible also says that not doing what God tells you to do is sin (James 4:17). Doing something you are not sure about is sin (Romans 14:23). According to God, even one bad thought is sin (Proverbs 24:9).

   Because of our sin, we always come short of what we would need to earn Heaven. None of us deserve it, no matter how good our works.

2. 02

   Sin has a penalty.

   “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

   Romans 6:23

   Notice the word wages. A wage is payment or punishment for work that is done — what you have truly earned or deserve. God says one sin is enough to earn that punishment of death.

   If eternal life is Heaven, then eternal death is the place called Hell. If God allowed even one sin to enter Heaven unpunished, it would no longer be the perfect place that it is.

3. 03

   That is the bad news.

   “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

   Revelation 20:15

   We all have sin, and because of it we all deserve the place called Hell, which ultimately is the Lake of Fire. Once someone goes to that awful place, there is no way out.

   This was never God's intended plan for any of mankind — He made Hell for Satan and his angels. Our sin is what would take us there. Nobody likes bad news, and thankfully God did not leave us with only bad news.

4. 04

   Here is the good news.

   “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

   Romans 5:8

   The word gospel means good news. Notice that the Bible said Hell is earned — a wage — but Heaven is a gift.

   A gift is offered to someone freely. It is not earned, and it is not deserved. Jesus Christ paid the wage we owed by dying in our place, being buried, and rising again the third day.

5. 05

   A gift has to be received.

   “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

   Romans 10:9

   To confess does not mean telling God all of your sins — that would be impossible. It means telling God the truth: admitting the truth about yourself, and about Him.

   It means believing that Jesus died for your sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He rose again physically after three days, and that God's Word is perfectly true in all that it says.

6. 06

   You can know for sure.

   “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

   Romans 10:13

   Whosoever includes you. If you are ready to trust Christ, you can call on Him right now, wherever you are, and ask Him to save you.

   God gave us His Word and said: “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life.” (1 John 5:13) You can be sure.
