Our History

51 years in the Blackstone Valley

From a church plant in Woonsocket in 1975 to a church family with second- and third-generation believers serving the Lord.

  1. 1975

    A church is planted

Dr. Robert Lewis and his wife accepted the call of God to plant a church in the city of Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

  2. Since then

    Rooted on Pine Swamp Road

The church settled into its home in Cumberland, reaching out into the Blackstone Valley area as a neighborhood church.

  3. 2001

    A second generation

Pastor Randy Lewis — who grew up in this ministry — became senior pastor, carrying on the same beliefs and doctrines.

  4. Today

    Second and third generations serving

The Lord continues to use this ministry in sending and supporting missionaries, winning souls, and planting like-minded churches.

A note from our first pastor and church planter

It is such a thrill for me to see the ongoing ministry of Blackstone Valley Baptist Church. When my wife and I accepted the call of God to plant a church in the city of Woonsocket in 1975, we had no idea of the challenges and the blessings that were in store for us.

We rejoice to see that the church still holds conservative Christian values after these many years of ministry. The Word of God has had a significant impact on the lives of many people who had been raised “religious” but lost.

There are second- and third-generation people serving the Lord under the leadership of our son, Randy Lewis, who has served as senior pastor since 2001. The Lord continues to use this ministry significantly in sending and supporting missionaries, winning souls, and planting additional like-minded churches.

If you are interested in an authentic church that is friendly and faithful to the Word of God, you will not be disappointed when you attend any of the services of Blackstone Valley Baptist Church.
